Oral hygiene
What does the dental hygienist do?
The work of the dental hygienist focuses on preventing cavities in teeth and problems with the gums. In addition, the dental hygienist treats gum disease so that it can heal.
The development of inflamed gums
Gum disease can be caused by poorer oral hygiene. But smoking, stress and various diseases also affect gum health. It is important to take signs of inflamed gums seriously.
Recognising gum disease
If you suffer from these signs, treatment by a dental hygienist is recommended:
- Bleeding gums when brushing.
- Loose teeth or molars in adult teeth.
- Red and swollen gums that do not close tightly around the teeth.
- Gums receding.
- Frequent cavities in your teeth.
- Often tartar or deposits on the teeth.
- Bad breath or foul taste.
- When oral care is tricky or difficult.
With the specialist care of the dental hygienist and good self-care, together we can work towards a stable and healthy dental situation.
Our dental hygienist

Prevention assistant
Dinie Heikamp is our prevention assistant. One of her important tasks is to give advice , tips and tailor-made instruction on how to take care of your mouth.
She has undergone additional training to remove tartar. If the check-up reveals that you have a little tartar or you have a mild form of gum inflammation, Dinie will clean and polish your teeth.
In addition, Dinie is great at preparing children for dental treatment. She does this by telling and showing them what is going to happen. This makes children feel comfortable with us.
