When do you take your child to the dentist for the first time?
Have you ever wondered when it's time for your child's first dentist visit? You're certainly not alone. It's a question we get asked regularly.
Once the first teeth start to appear, or at the latest around their first birthday, it is advisable to make an appointment with us.
Not to treat, but to get used to.
The first visit is all about getting acquainted with the practice, the chair, the lights, and the dentist. Your child can look around at their own pace, sit in the chair for a bit, and build up a sense of familiarity. Children who experience this from a young age will later know that a visit to the dentist isn't scary. This saves a lot of stress for your child and for you.
Little tips for a good start
Plan the first visit for a time when your child is well-rested. Taking a cuddly toy? Absolutely. The more familiar things, the better. And don't make a big deal of it yourself. The more relaxed you are, the more relaxed your child will experience it.
Do you have any questions about your child's dental care, or would you simply like to know what a first visit is like? Feel free to call us or ask your question at your next check-up. We're happy to help.
